Alkaline phosphatase Measurement in Bronchial Aspiration Fluid in Lung Cancer Patients and Non Lung Cancer Patients

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase measurement in bronchial aspiration fluid was carried out on 22 cases of lung cancer patients and 25 cases of non lung cancer patients.
In the non lung cancer patients, pulmonary tuberculosis, pleural effusion, pneumonia, bronchiectasis, benign mediastinal teratoma were included. The total protein was also measured.
The result was as followed.
1) During the procedure of flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy, bronchial aspiration was performed in 22 lung cancer patient(16 male, 6 female, mean age 59) and 25 non lung cancer patients(13 male, 7 female, mean age 46).
2) Alkaline phosphatase value in bronchial aspiration fluid was 17.0 King Armstrong unit in the lung cancer patient and 6.4 King Armstrong unit in the non lung cancer patients. (p>0. 05)
3) Bronchial aspiration total protein value was 71.Omg/dl in the lung cancer patients and 102.0mg/dl in the non lung cancer patients. (p>0.05)
4) Alkaline phosphatase/protein x 10 (ratio) value of bronchial aspiration fluid was 4.43 in the lung cancer patients and 1. 16 in the non lung cancer patients. (p<0.05)
5) So we concluded that, with bronchial washing cytology and other cancer marker measurement, alkaline phosphatase measurement of bronchial aspirate is helpful test of lung cancer diagnosis.
